24-Jun-2009   Bhutanese Women’s Advocacy group

Abstract: Settlement itself is a challenging process and the new arrivals face a number of issues brought on by isolation due to language and culture barrier in a new environment. The formation of the support groups meet their specific needs in psychological support, especially in group activities. The target group is Bhutanese women of ages 21-85 who need culturally sensitive support. The mix in ages is meaningful as the women enjoy the mutual friendship and close cultural bond. The single younger women need the support of the older experienced women while the older women enjoy their company. They grow and learn side by side.
