This submission was developed by the Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) after a national consultation process involving more than 430 people from 38 cities and towns located across eight Australian states and territories. Participants included refugee and humanitarian entrants from at least 17 countries of origin and representatives of more than 180 organisations. In the consultation process, RCOA sought views on: the composition of the Refugee and Humanitarian Program;
options for increasing community support for refugee and humanitarian settlement; settlement
program planning; emerging settlement issues; post-arrival orientation for refugee and
humanitarian entrants; and communication with the Australian public about the Refugee and
Humanitarian Program.
