Community Kitchen
The project targets isolated and newly arrived women from various Arabic cultural backgrounds like: Lebanese, Sudanese, Egyptian, and Palestinian etc
The background of this project is to use the community kitchen and food preparation to empower women with life skills community participation to combat their isolation , enhance their self esteem and encourage them to interact with the broader community they are adapting to in order to achieve social inclusion.
The project provides information about food, health, education, employment, training, as well as other and about various services for the women in an informal way; that is through a friendly environment where some of the women cook their own cultural recipes for the group and facilitator /guest speaker provide information and answer questions.
In addition to group members’ enhanced ability to interact as a group some have also been identified to show motivation, signs of leadership skills, demonstrated self confidence – as qualities that they have gained through participating in the Foods for Moods group. The group has also provided catering for some community functions and meetings and social enterprise possibilities are currently being explored.
Look into compiling a nutritional recipe book of the recipes that Foods for Moods group members have shared together.
