Refugee Week 2010

This year's Refugee Week will take place from June 20 to 26. Many of SCOA's member organisations will be holding events to celebreate Refugee Week and to help raise awareness of the issues faced by refugees in Australia and overseas. Some of these events include...


Place: Hobart

Title: ‘Our Traditional Culture’

Venue: Moonah Arts Centre

Date: 18th - 30th June 2010

Background information: The Migrant Resource Centre (Southern Tasmania) Inc. in partnership with the Glenorchy City Council is celebrating Refugee Week with an exhibition of arts and craft showing traditional skills and practices of people from a refugee and migrant background living in Tasmania. This project is funded by the Community Capacity Building Grants Program 2009-10.

Place: Brisbane

Title: Different Cultures, One Home

 

Venue: Studio 13, 13 Kurilpa St West End

Date: 18th to 23rd June

Background information: The “Different Cultures – One Home” exhibition is being organised by ACCES Services Inc, and will be held to showcase original art works/paintings from artists who have come from another cultures and now call Australia their home, especially those coming from refugee backgrounds. Title: Refugee Camp in Macarthur

Venues: Currans and Guise Public Schools - Macquarie Filed

Dates: 21st to 26th June

Background information: Macarthur Diversity Services "Refugee Camp in Macarthur" Tent and information will be taken to Currans and Guise Public Schools in Macquarie Fields. Activities with chi ldren in years 5 and 6 include an interactive stor y about refugee children where  the students become part of the story . The aim of "The Camp " project is to promote a better understanding of the courage and suffering of refugees and the rich contributions they make to Australia .
