The level of interest expressed in this conference across Australia, as well as overseas, strongly reinforced the desire of participants from the government, academic, nongovernment and community sectors to engage in meaningful dialogue about social inclusion and its implications for new and emerging communities and the broader community. This conference shifted the barrier from speaking to the converted to engaging the broadest possible participation. Over 380 people attended from a diversity of sectors including health, mental health, child care, education, training and employment, immigration and settlement, welfare, emergency services, aged care, women, youth, media, arts and heritage, English language training, universities and TAFE, police services, volunteering, local government, regional services/development, community service clubs and organisations (eg Girl Guides SA, Surf Life Saving SA) and others.
