“The Hub” - An Innovative ACCES projects addressing key settlement family and relationship issues

For many refugee entrants, resettlement is more than simply starting life again in a new country; it is often a complete rebuilding of life; regaining of trust and sense of self-worth.

ASI recognises that the integration of and successful settlement process for refugee and humanitarian entrants into Australia is seen as part of a wider complex series of systems and, therefore, coordinated prevention, intervention and problem-solving efforts are needed to bring about systemic change to eliminate social isolation and disadvantage that refugees and humanitarian entrants risk facing

The Healthy Family Relationship Program (HFRP) is one program that works with the whole family early in their arrival to support and provide advice to the family, particularly in terms of family relationship issues and family breakdowns.

The methodology was to engage the participants in dialogue about family life, to explore the challenges it poses with the move to living in Australia and to consider ways of meeting these challenges and necessary behaviour changes.

The CALD Hub is a collaborative partnership project aimed primarily at enhancing English proficiency, literacy and social skills for children and adults (who are newly arrived in Australia) in a non institutional environment which focuses on enhancing their linguistic, cultural and social development. Using an integrated service model, participants are able to access a range of appropriate programs to enhance integration into the school and broader community.
